About This Group
The Fire Season Support Groups are “stand-alone”: coming to one doesn’t commit you to attending all four sessions. We do ask that you come on time as a gift to yourself and the other participants, listen thoughtfully and share if you feel moved to. Our purpose is to provide a confidential setting for you and your colleagues (active RECAMFT members) to process your current thoughts, feelings and experiences in response to the wildfires, including the threat of closures, evacuations, power shut-offs and more. The urgent pressure of climate change can be deeply troubling. These groups are not meant to be think tanks, but a place to have your pain, grief or fear witnessed with compassion and empathy.
We hope you will join us for one or more of these sessions to connect with concerned others in community.
Meet The Facilitator
Doreen Van Leeuwen, LMFT, a graduate of Fuller Theological Seminary(‘79-’81), moved to Santa Rosa in 2015 when she was smitten by a little dewdrop named Lily Joy who arrived on 4-12-2015. Little did Doreen know that her training in disruptive event management(DEM) and disaster mental health(DMH) were just what RECAMFT needed. Since her arrival, she also began a private practice, played a key role in RECAMFT’s response to the 2017 Wildfires, and trained in Mind-Body Medicine for healing disaster-induced trauma. She loves pillow fighting with 4 year old Eli, crunchy peanut butter, and hiking under a full moon.
