LONG Description
In life we sometimes experience relationships that have become strained or distant leaving us feeling depressed, anxious, ineffective or alone. Old anger, boundary issues, financial stress or the pain of loss can leave you at odds with friends, co-workers or the family members you love. As a parent you may feel guilty or overwhelmed as you watch your children struggle with academics, inequities, peer relationship or self esteem. Perhaps you are that child or teen feeling pulled down by the expectations of teachers or parents, divorce, social isolation, the legal system or the complexities of an intimate relationship. I have had great success working with parents, divorced parents, single parents, couples and youth. I have witnessed family members, as a result of therapy, heal from the profound shame that can linger from poor parenting, past trauma, addiction or loss. Clients experience personal growth, develop healthier relationships and learn compassion for themselves and others. As a therapist I approach my work with curiosity and respect and the knowledge that we all live very different lives. My professional training stems from a psychodynamic orientation, meaning that in the therapy we will explore your story-without judgement-and attempt to make connections between your past experiences and your current ways of relating to others. Too, we may look at the core beliefs you have about yourself or the family from which you came to gain more insight into who you are. With awarenss and insight you will begin the first steps to change. I have worked extensively with families recovering from the impact of a parent's substance abuse focusing on both parents and children and the patterns that exist when addiction is present.Along with my MFT I am an experienced teacher of students with special needs and have facilitated anger management groups for both men and women.
